HOW TO REQUEST YOUR REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

Did you know you can manage repeat prescriptions from in the NHS App?

You can easily choose where your prescriptions are sent. So, if you know you'll be away from home or you are moving home, you can change your nominated pharmacy from within the app.

You can also order your prescription at any time that suits you. There’s no need to wait to join a telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.

It’s easy to use, and, if you hit a snag, you can go to ‘Help’ in the top right-hand corner of the app or visit nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

Telephone - You can ring reception to order your prescription. Please allow 48 hours from ordering to collection.

Online - via a secure internet facility known as Patient Access - Please speak to a member of our Reception Teams for further information on how to sign up.

Please note: a 48 hour waiting period is needed from receipt of your request at the surgery before collection of repeat prescriptions.

 It is YOUR responsibility to request your prescription, the correct items on your repeat prescription and in good time. Please check the items once collected from the pharmacy and contact us as soon as possible with any queries.

Please ensure your request your prescriptions with plenty of time, especially before your holiday or weekends/bank holidays. Please do not allow yourself to run out of medication.

Your surgery appointment is of a length that does not include time to process repeat prescriptions. Various checks are made with repeat prescriptions, so the process takes a bit of time. Please do not compromise your appointment time by asking your GP to process this during your appointment.

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIBING (EPS)

Your prescription will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy via EPS. This means that once you request your repeat medication, the prescription (green paper) goes electronically to the pharmacy you have nominated, without the need for you to pick up your prescription at the surgery. Please ring to order your prescription.

Its really quick and easy to nominate a pharmacy - just let reception know.

You will still need to leave 48 hours before collecting your repeat medications from the pharmacy or having them deliver it to you.

*Please note that a small minority of medications are unable to be sent by EPS.

HOSPITALS

If a specialist prescribes a new medication or changes one that you are on please ask them to provide you with the first prescription. This may be on a white prescription that can be used in the hospital pharmacy or on a green one that you can take to your normal pharmacy. Upon notification from the specialist your surgery may automatically add the medication change to your repeat list on the computer. You will then be able to order re-supply without an appointment. You may need to telephone your surgery to confirm this or use on-line services if you have registered for them. If you are uncertain what changes the specialist is making please ask them to explain it to you at the appointment. It saves you having to see your GP to discuss something they may only know of from a short letter of explanation. 

NHS Prescription Charges

The NHS prescription charge is currently £9.90 for each medicine or appliance dispensed. The cost of the prescription pre-payment certificates (PPCs) are as follows, the 3 month PPC is £32.05and the cost of the annual PPC £114.50, allowing unlimited prescriptions within a specified time period. PCCs offer savings for those needing four or more items in three months or more than 12 items in one year. There is also now a HRT pre-payment certificate. Ask at your pharmacy for more information.
